Last week, the Whitgift School String Competition was the first music competition to return this term, giving all students who learn the violin, viola, cello, or double bass an opportunity to perform in a supportive environment.
All students were invited to enter, regardless of their ability or whether they take lessons with a teacher at Whitgift or outside of the School. The competition was split into three classes as shown below:
Class A – Up to and including Grade 3
Class B – Grades 4 to 6
Class C – Grade 7 and above
Director of Orchestral Music, Mr Winter summarised, “The standard of playing in each category was of the usual high standard. For boys to have managed to keep this level of performance up throughout lockdown and school exam week, demonstrated the incredible resolve of the Whitgift students.”
Thank you to Mr Winter for organising the event and to the adjudicators, Whitgift’s Director of Music, Mr Alby Elsom and special guest, Head of Strings at Trinity School, Mr Cristian Persinaru.
