In November 2019, the English department at Whitgift School held its annual Junior Literary Festival which echoes the Hay Festivals held around the world, but made famous in Hay-on-Wye, Wales. The festivals bring together authors, politicians, poets, scientists, comedians, philosophers and musicians.
Whitgift had six remarkable authors visit the School: Chris Bradford, Karl Nova, Steve Cole, Nikki Sheehan, Matt Whyman and Stephen Davies. Each hosted an assembly and led creative workshops for the First Formers. Students thoroughly enjoyed learning about how these authors became successful and the techniques used to enhance their writing and talents. The pupils were also treated to a book-signing session at lunchtime.
The school would like thank all the authors who attended and celebrated the Junior Literary Festival with students and staff, for making it another successful event!
