In the run up to Christmas Trinity School appealed to the Trinity community to support a local cause. The Shirley Neighbourhood Care Scheme (SNCS) provide services to help older residents live independently for as long as possible.
Many of their services were unfortunately put on hold due to the pandemic. As SNCS are isolated from their clients, they put together gift bags for every one of them before Christmas.
Trinity School supported them by running a collection for their gift bags and asked families for suitable donations. Donated items were also received from other sources, along with Christmas cards from local primary schools. The donations we received from Trinity families were incredibly generous and made a huge difference to the success of the appeal. Donations were collated and packed in the school and almost 200 local elderly people received a gift bag. Any items received through the appeal that weren’t suitable for gifting were all passed on to the local food bank at the Shrublands Trust.
Suzy from the Shirley Neighbourhood Care wrote to thank Trinity School for the support. Suzy wrote: “A big thank you to you and everyone at Trinity for allowing us to use your facilities for our Christmas gift bag distribution to the elderly. The help from Trinity was tremendous – facilities, generous parents who donated gifts and the lovely cards from the students. We have been overwhelmed already by thanks from our elderly isolated clients.”
Trinity School also received the following comments from those being supported by the SNCS and their families:“I send my thanks to you especially for organizing the lovely bag of treats, which I received yesterday, it is so kind and generous of everyone”.
“Thank you for the wonderful gifts – I’ve never received anything like that before – it’s so appreciated – I live alone and am 93 years old. Thank you”.
“I’d just like to say a big thank you for the Xmas bag that was delivered to my dad. He has lived in Shirley most of his life and now suffers from dementia. The bag brought him a lot of joy”.
