Congratulations to Whitgift School Upper Sixth Form IB student William on his outstanding achievement in Southampton University’s National Cipher Challenge.
The competition is now in its 20th year and was established to get students enthused and passionate about mathematics and codebreaking and motivated to consider careers in STEM subjects.
Entrants are required to decipher encrypted messages which become increasingly complex throughout the ten rounds with the final message being almost impossibly difficult to crack.
Just the top fifteen entries, from over 2,700 teams from across the UK, were scrutinised for their efficiency and elegance, and William received a Special Merit Award.
