Despite school closures and the majority of pupils now learning from home, staff and pupils from Old Palace of John Whitgift School still managed to enjoy the school’s annual Easter Service from their homes, thanks to a live streaming on YouTube.

Father Andrew and the Bishop family welcomed us virtually into their home as they delivered the service live from their living room!

The Easter service has now received over 1,000 views on YouTube and can be viewed here.

Beatrice, Year 7 pupil at Old Palace of John Whitgift School, said: “Today was a first for Old Palace because we had a live streamed Easter service. I know lots of people saw it and joined in with it from home. I was in the funny position that I was there because it was live streamed from my family’s sitting room (Fr Andrew is my dad)! He asked me to do the reading and make sure the music and Megan’s words were played on time. Although it was just me and him in the room it was lovely to know that the whole Old Palace community was with us too, and that made it feel a bit less strange. I am getting used to my living room be like a chapel because we have been doing live streams for Croydon Minster too!”

Jane Burton, Head, Old Palace of John Whitgift School, said: “It was such a positive experience for the whole school community. A huge thanks to Fr Andrew, Beatrice and the Bishop family for letting us into their home and for giving us all the opportunity to come together in difficult times.”
