Members of Whitgift School’s Horticultural Club, lead by Mr Nicholls, joined Whitgift School’s Team of Gardeners at lunch time today to plant cherry trees beside the new Junior Quad, in the area next to the Water Garden.

Lower First Form students Raphael and Ryan had previously planted flowers, but this was their first experience with trees. Head Gardener, Mr Mallett, explained to the group how the trees had been grown and transferred with the roots carefully wrapped and that once in their new location they would spread out in the soil and establish themselves.

The excitement of this sessions was cut short by a brief, passing hail storm but the students have more planting to look forward to next week.

We look forward to seeing the trees come into bloom this spring.
